Jesteś tylko sobą, nie jesteś
sygnałem dla świata, by się zmienił,
ratunkiem dla ludzi czy choćby dla mnie. Jesteś
tu, jak ślimak albo małż, zwyczajnie;
jak liść wśród milionów liści,
jak morze lub najmniejsza z morskich istot,
po prostu. A jednak czytam twoją twarz
i widzę gwiazdę, która budzi się w oczach,
jak soki w liściu, przypływ pod księżycem.
Próbuję tego życia w tobie, chcę
myśleć jak ty, wyczuć, dlaczego zmienia się
puls; małe ciało, niewielki ciężar
na moich rękach. Bardziej niż siebie samą
chcę poznać, kim ty jesteś. To dar.
Kołyszę cię, a wszystko wokół nas ożywa.
Tuląc ciebie, otulam świat.
Niech będzie bezpieczny.

like a snail or molluse, only there;

and see a star waking in your eyes
like sap-rise to a leaf, tide-rush to the moon.
I try to live the life inside your head, think
what you are thinking, feel what makes

in my arms. More than my self, I want to know

W 2014 roku została odznaczona prestiżową nagrodą Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry, jest również laureatką nagrody Cholmondeley Award oraz członkinią Royal Society of Literature. Wydała kilka zbiorów poezji: Purdah, Postcards from god, I Speak for the devil, The terrorist at my table, Leaving Fingerprints oraz Over the Moon.

Renata Senktas, poetka i tłumaczka, autorka dwóch zbiorów poetyckich. Wiersze i przekłady publikowała m.in. w Literaturze na świecie, Faultline, Past Simple i Hvedekorn. Ostatnio przetłumaczyła bajkę Louisa MacNeice’a O sześciopensówce, która odturlała się od reszty.

One of her most recent translations is Louis MacNeice’s story for children The Sixpence That Rolled Away.
